Vida y reinado Tras la muerte de Silo (783) y bajo la inspiración de la reina viuda, Adosinda, los nobles asturianos eligieron como nuevo rey al joven Alfonso, hijo de Fruela I (757-768). Poco después, sin embargo, Mauregato se hace con la corona. Con la victoria y coronación de Mauregato, Alfonso debió de regresar a su refugio en tierras alavesas, patria de su madre Munia.
